Coffee Update #8

Heyyyy guys! Welcome back to another Coffee Update. This is where we grab a cup of coffee, or tea, or hot chocolate, as the climate seems to demand, and I talk to you about what’s up with my life right now. A bit of a vlog in a written form, if you will.

So grab a cuppa and settle down!

If we were having coffee right now, firstly, I would tell you that I can totally NOT get over this song, at all. I’ve played it, like 47 times in the last 5 days. Maybe an exaggeration, but that’s as accurate as it gets. The song’s too goddamn catchy. Ed Sheeran never ceases to surprise me. Go check it out if you haven’t heard it already! Here, I’ll just give it to you:

If we were having coffee right now, I would tell you that I’ve created another place for myself to write! Some of you may have seen a couple of football-related posts on this blog. I realised that this isn’t exactly the place for those kind of posts, but I do have a great interest in football and, as it appears, some people think I write well about football. So I decided to create The United Writer! It is a blog where I write about football and Manchester United Football Club.

It’s hardly been about three/four months since I started the blog, but its already allowed me to get in touch with some great people in the football-related media community and interacting with others in a field of your interest is always a great experience. For example, the owner of one of the biggest football fan accounts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, got in touch with me, since (I assume) he probably liked my work. Now I write with him on his website! The name is Man United Zone, and you can check it out by clicking here: Man United Zone

I’m really happy with where I am, and I look forward to growing more, and in that quest, I can use all the help I get!

If we were having coffee right now, I’d briefly tell you about what’s going on with me academically. I had my exams for the first semester of my Bachelor’s course at college about a month back. We got the results for that, just today. I’m not happy with the amount of effort I put in, preparing for the exams. We haven’t received a cumulative grade yet, but going by the individual subject grades I’ve got, I’m pretty sure I’ll make an A, I’m hoping they bump me up to A+. Yes, regrets. Powerful thing, no?

I haven’t done particularly badly, but I’m going to try and not make the same mistakes again. I tend to do that sometimes, and I really don’t like it when I do.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d talk to you about Sherlock for a little bit. Holy shit, Cumbersandwich you beautiful, beautiful man! What an absolute gem this show has been. It seems pretty clear they’ve prepared for the end, and this was probably it. I think it’s a great end to a great show, and it would seem unnatural to drag it on further. It was a pleasure. I shall miss the two year long waits for new seasons.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d just like to thank you. For being here, reading and listening, with us separated only by something as trivial as a digital screen and maybe a few hundred miles, at the most.

I write because I like to share my thoughts here. Right now, I appreciate anybody who’s reading this, and even those who choose not to.

So, well, that’s what’s up! You are now officially updated with some of the stuff I’m dealing with at the moment! It was great catching a quick coffee with you peoples, I’ll see you soon.

Until the next post,

Adios muchachos!

Awesome Quotes – Music Lyrics Part II

AWESOME QUOTES

Welcome back, to the second part of the Awesome Quotes of Music and Lyrics.

Last week, I mentioned how I had a ton of quotes to put up here, and I decided to split this up into two parts for that reason, so it remained relatively short and light on the eye, so to say.

Getting right to it, here’s the last batch of the amazing music lyrics I managed to round up. I’ve also attached Soundcloud plugins for each song (I could find) under the respective quote, so you can listen to the song in full.

Enjoy!

This is 10% luck, 20% skill

15% concentrated power of will

5% pleasure, 50% pain

And a 100% reason to remember the name

– Fort Minor, Remember the Name

When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year

But,

I’ll be there for you

When the rain starts to pour

I’ll be there like I’ve been there before

I’ll be there for you

‘Cause you’re there for me too…

– The Rembrandts, I’ll Be There For You

And I’m thinking ’bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways

Maybe just the touch of a hand

Oh me I fall in love with you every single day

And I just wanna tell you I am

– Ed Sheeran, Thinking Out Loud

https://soundcloud.com/milanezos/written-in-the-stars-tinie-tempah-ft-eric-turner

Oh, seasons come and go

But I will never change

And I’m on my way

– Tinie Tempah ft. Eric Turner, Written in the Stars

Where’s the good in goodbye?

Where’s the nice in nice try?

Where’s the us in trust gone?

Where’s the soul in soldier on?

– The Script, No Good in Goodbye

I see your dirty face

Hide behind your collar

What is done in vain

Truth is hard to swallow

So you pray to God

To justify the way you live a lie, live a lie, live a lie

– Kevin Rudolf & Lil Wayne, Let it Rock

Don’t let the ones that want to steal your dreams away

They’ll steal your dreams away

Just laugh and let it go

– Old Man Canyon, Phantoms and Friends

Trust I seek and I find in you

Every day for us something new

Open mind for a different view

And nothing else matters

– Metallica, Nothing Else Matters

In this farewell

There’s no blood

There’s no alibi

‘Cause I’ve drawn regret

From the truth

Of a thousand lies

So let mercy come

And wash away

What I’ve done

I’ll face myself

To cross out what I’ve become

Erase myself

And let go of what I’ve done

– Linkin Park, What I’ve Done

Well, that’s it folks, that was all the music lyrics I have right now.

Do you agree with me? Does any lyric remind you of any other related song, or lyric? Let me know!

I’ll see you next time, folks.

Awesome Quotes – Music Lyrics Part I

AWESOME QUOTES

Long back I wrote a post about some really great quotes about music, and a few lyrics from songs I found to be really moving, in one way or another.

Today, I’m giving you a follow-up, of sorts, of that post and I’m going to focus solely on lyrics from songs I’ve heard. Rohan Marathe, a friend of mine, read my previous Awesome Quotes post and thought I should do another music-based one, so I thought why not? Because after all, its the words that invariably stick with you for a long time.

This is a two-part post, because I had way too many lyrics to fit into this segment, and I thought putting them all into one would make it too long, and so, to keep it lighter on the eye (and mind) I’ve split it up into two. This post is the first part, the sequel to which will I will publish next Friday, so keep an eye out for that.

So, let’s jump right into it! Here’s my selection of awesome quotes from songs, in no particular order. I’ve also attached Soundcloud plugins for each song (I could find) before the respective quote, so you can listen to the song in full.

Enjoy!

We keep this love in a photograph

We made these memories for ourselves

Where our eyes are never closing

Hearts are never broken

And time’s forever frozen still

– Ed Sheeran, Photograph

Your lies are bullets

Your mouth’s the gun

And no war in anger was ever won

Put out the fire before igniting

Next time you’re fighting

Kill ’em with kindness

– Selena Gomez, Kill ‘Em With Kindness

Do it for your people

Do it for your pride

Never gonna know if you never even try

Do it for your country

Do it for your name

Cause there’s gonna be a day

When you’re standing in the hall of fame

– The Script ft. Will.I.Am, Hall of Fame

You’re my end and my beginning

Even when I lose, I’m winning

– John Legend, All of Me

Hope when the moment comes, you’ll say

I… I did it all

I owned every second that this world could give

I saw so many places

The things that I did

Yeah, with every broken bone

I swear I lived

– OneRepublic, I Lived

My father said,

Don’t you worry, don’t you worry child

See, heaven’s got a plan for you

Don’t you worry, don’t you worry now

– Sam Tsui, Don’t You Worry Child

When the lights come on, the beat still remains

The strength inside, glory to gain

The shades of light, merge into one

As the broken skies clear from the sun

We’re the same, you and I

Reaching out to justify

Give me a chance, give me the time

Get in the game

– Cody Martins and Sparky Buddha, Get in the Game

I’ve witnessed your suffering

As the battles raged higher

And though they hurt me so bad

In the fear and alarm

You did not desert me

My brothers in arms

– Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms

Working hard to get my fill

Everybody wants a thrill

Payin’ anything to roll the dice just one more time

Some will win, some will lose

Some were born to sing the blues

Oh, the movie never ends

It goes on and on and on and on

– Journey, Don’t Stop Believing

That’s it for the first part of the Awesome Music Lyrics, folks! I hope you enjoyed it, and I’ll see you with more like these next Friday.

Until next time.

Coffee Update #3

COFFEE UPDATE 3

Fancy a coffee? Cyber-coffee, shall we call this?

Welcome back to a third coffee update. Let me bring you up to speed with stuff, while you sip on that beautiful little cup of coffee.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you that I’ve designed a couple of new covers for this post format on my blog (the ones at the beginning of this post). Pretty snazzy, eh?

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you that I’ve put my music library on shuffle at the moment, and Adele’s Rolling in the Deep is on right now. Her voice can either really get on your nerves, or it feels very, very satisfying.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you that Suits is officially THE best TV show on this planet or any other developed enough to rank TV shows. It resumed its 5th season on the 27th of January after a winter break, long enough to make me impatient as hell. Literally every episode of it is perfect. Do yourself a favour and go watch it.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you I just got back my results for the preliminary examinations that took place in the second and third weeks of January. I said I was confident of doing well, and I did. Since the prelims are like a rehearsal for the real thing (the Boards, where you do not actually write on boards), the teachers are often very strict while dishing out marks and frequently give us less than what our answer objectively warrants, so that us students don’t get complacent before the Boards. I did encounter this in a couple of subjects, but not all. No big deal though, I know what the reality of the situation is though.

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you that Billy Boyd is a hell of a guy. Just listen to this:

If we were having coffee right now, I’d tell you that I finally saw Spectre. I see what people meant when they said Christoph Waltz was under-utilised. I feel he was terribly under-used. He was such a badass in Django Unchained and now this is the role he gets in a James Bond movie that should have been defining for him as that character who is kinda blurred morally, as he was in Django. Overall decent Bond flick, but it always feels with Dan Craig’s Bond, that the real villain is always Bond himself, with his personality coming in the way all the time.

Some Spectre fan art I found.

Well, that’s it for this coffee convo (or tea if you’re not into coffee)! I hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about me.

What would you tell me if we were having coffee right now?

A Desk, A Noisy Classroom and the Cinema Hall

Writing is a funny thing. You may write about world peace, or about harmony or getting along with one another but you may be writing it in the middle of a war, or in a busy cafe. Roald Dahl wrote about murderous giants and horrid witches from a quaint little yellow hut by his house.

They say home is where the heart is. Going by that, I guess its fair to say that we write best where our heart really is. It could be a little hut by the house, like it was for Roald Dahl, or it could be our desk. It could be a bench in the park or our bed. It depends. Sometimes I can’t write in the same place all the time. I need a change of scenery. Some fresh air and different sounds. Different kinds of sensory stimulation. That’s what I need sometimes. I need some sort of stimulation to get me going and keep me clacking away on the keys. It doesn’t matter if I’m typing half-rubbish – I can always weed that out later – the important thing sometimes is to keep writing.

One sort of stimulation for me is music. Like most of us, I prefer different kinds of music for different situations, moods and needs. While I’m writing I usually go for instrumentals. That way there’s no words in the music that get in the way of the words in my head. There’s a lot of old-school instrumentals that are really soothing, and they do the job no doubt, but even modern fast-paced soundtracks are extremely effective. There’s Brian Tyler’s Into Eternity from Thor 2, the main theme of GoT, all of Steve Jablonsky’s amazing works in the first three films of The Transformers movie franchise, Michael Giacchino’s Enterprising Young Men from the new Star Trek franchise, Hans Zimmer’s Like a Dog Chasing Cars from The Dark Knight, and many more (comment if you want more, I’ve got loads :D).

But what if your writer’s heart isn’t in any singular place but in writing itself? Well, then you’re like me. I’m that sort of person, that if I get an idea to write, an impulse of even a minor plot device that I just feel I want to use in a story, I’ll start writing it.

I often write on my desk because I’m home when I get ideas and my laptop is lying on my desk and I’m too lazy to carry it elsewhere. When I’m not home, however, and I don’t have the laptop close by, I use my note-taking apps or even Microsoft Word, on my phone.

Once last year I was sitting in this really boring Hindi lecture at college and I was doodling Iron Man’s armor, and Captain America’s shield and The Flash, when I got an insane idea for a story. So I whipped out my Hindi notebook and I just started writing. Another time, I was watching a movie, it was a really cheesy Hindi one. I don’t even remember the name, except that Ranbir Kapoor was in it. And I wasn’t really into it; I’d gone to watch it with a bunch of friends and we were all cracking up at how silly it was and then I got one of those out-of-the-blue ideas to write again. I didn’t have a phone then so I took one of my friend’s phones and I started typing in one of the note-taking apps he had and thought I’d email it to myself or something. Hilariously, in a hurry, I didn’t save it properly so I lost about 1500 worth of story material.

Again, I can’t always write anywhere I feel like. There’s a lot of times that I force myself to sit down and just write, because I haven’t written in a while. Sometimes when the gap between writing sessions increases, it just gets harder to squeeze out some material. I guess the place where we write can really influence our writing. The ambiance, the disturbances, or lack thereof, can all reflect in our writing.

In the end, though, I believe it doesn’t matter if we write in your office, or on the toilet, in college or in the train. What matters that we write.

Those were my thoughts on writing and the places where we write best. Where do you write best?

Also, below you’ll see a short poll about the different kinds of posts that I write. What kind would you want to see me write more of, or what kind have you liked the most on my blog? Please fill in the form and help me out to know what my audience likes best, and I’ll write accordingly!

Awesome Quotes: Music and Songs

music-is-my-escape-life-quoteMusic. Its too much to be able to describe it aptly in a line or two. It elevates you. It pushes you. It teaches you. It entertains you. It makes you think. Its healing.

Now that I think of it, music is probably the best way of passing time.

So today, I’ve compiled a great list of small snips of lyrics from some great songs, composed by some great people. Enjoy!

“You learn a lot about people when you listen to the songs that mean something to them.” – Unknown

“Music is what feelings sound like.” – Anonymous

“I was so much older then. I’m younger than that now.” – Bob Dylan; The Byrds, My Back Pages

“If we weren’t all crazy we would go insane.” – Jimmy Buffett, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes

“No matter what you do, you’ll never run away from you.” – Paul Revere and the Raiders, Kicks

“Love me or hate me, I swear it won’t make or break me.” – Lil Wayne

“Let it be.” – John Lennon

“But in the end it doesn’t even matter.” – Linkin Park

Aaaand that’s it for this week’s Awesome Quotes! I hope you liked it. There are tons and tons of amazing songs out there with great lyrics but do let me know if I missed something that is just too good.

As always, come back next Friday for more Awesome Quotes 🙂

Hint: Next Friday’s Awesome Quotes will be the first of two parts with a shared theme and will have something to do with sports.

Stay tuned to catch it next Friday! 😀
